Reflective
Log

Week commencing 25/02/19:

This week was the first week of our FMP. We were given our assignment brief. We have been asked to make something, within the topic of time, that demonstrates the skills we have learnt from our previous assignments. I still have to come up with a concept for my project. We also went into London and visited The British Museum. The photos can be found in my research. I didn't find the trip as useful as others as I don't think I want to focus my assignment on London. However, the trip was useful as a way to eliminate the subject of London and was also useful to build up a collection of photos that I can use later on that will be copyright free and easier to use. For next week, I want to have come up with a concept for my FMP and have brainstormed possible ideas.

Week commencing 04/03/19:

This week was quite an important week in the project. I chose the topic I am going to focus my FMP on and started to plan out what exactly I am doing and started writing my proposal. I used Trello to start producing a to do list of things I have to get done in order to plan out and successfully execute my FMP. I also started researching about my chosen topic. I want to do a magazine about the evolution of women throughout time. I have chosen to this decade by decade and have a cover page for each decade with a picture of the main female influence in that decade. I want to discuss how women's rights have evolved throughout time and the difference between how women were represented in the media then vs now. By next week, I want my proposal to be finish and handed in, my timetable finished and my research to have significant progress made to it.

Week commencing 11/03/19:

This week I made significant progress in my planning. I am constantly updating my Trello board and referring back to it as a guide. I finished my proposal well in advance of it's deadline and I have nearly finished my Pechakucha. I was a bit set back this week due to being told to change my ideas and write an article instead of making a magazine. I have taken some of the advice on board, however, I have decided to stick with making a magazine. The main reason being that I fell in love with my concept for my magazine so I will work harder to produce a magazine I love, rather than an easy cop out of an article that I will hate producing.  I feel like I am in a good position at the moment. I definitely have a lot more research to do if I wan to be able to produce double page spreads for each decade being discussed. I also have to research magazines in each decade. I am looking forward to doing more research as I find the topic very interesting and  it can get quite complex. Hopefully, by next week I will have my Pechakucha 100% completed and majority of my research done and hopefully made a start on production.

Week commencing 18/03/19:

This week I made a lot of progress. I finished my Pechakucha and presented it on Friday. I also got feedback from my peers. I am happy with how it turned out and I feel that my idea was well executed. I also feel as if the feedback really helped. One of the main pieces of feedback that really helped me was someone said 'why have you chosen to start from the 1960's'. that is something I haven't thought about or discussed so I will definitely be writing about that and adding it to my blog for next week. I also made significant progress with my research. I have researched magazines and how magazines styles have changed from the 1960's to present. I have also researched influential women in media, specifically advertisement, and how they made a change. I have yet to complete my research and put it into my blog, but hopefully by the end of next week I would have finished majority of my research. Obviously, research is an ongoing thing that will continue throughout the whole FMP. Overall, I feel as if I am in a good place and am close to starting pre-production and planning my actual magazine.

Week commencing 25/03/19:

This week was really productive. I made a lot of significance on my research. I researched adverts in each decade and how they impacted and were reflective in society. I also researched magazines which, if I was writing an article for a pre existing magazine, would be the most appropriate to write for. I found when doing this research that there isn't a magazine that my article would fit into and the magazines that are more appropriate are American so they wouldn't be for the right target audience. By next week, I want to have finished my research and have developed my skills and experimentation. I might also start production before the half term. I currently feel like I am in a good position. I think I am keeping on top of my work and I don't feel that I am falling behind at all. Hopefully, I can keep it like this!

Week commencing 01/04/19:

This week I mainly focused on making my questionnaire and analysing the results. I made my questionnaire using Google Forms. I used this as primary research to gather quantitative data. The results from my questionnaire were really useful in understanding the general opinion of my target audience vs. the opinion of an audience I'm not trying to reach. The overall opinions were the same as mine. The results I found most interesting was when I asked about the representation and media standards set for men. Most people thought that men don't find them struggling to meet the crazy standards women have to meet, however, some people did say that they find men's standards are hard to achieve and can lead to mental health issues. My questionnaire was very useful in gathering the key information that I need to produce a magazine that tackles the issues discussed in a tactful, modern but sensitive way. I feel like I am in a good position at the moment, but I need to start production ASAP so I don't miss the deadline.

Week commencing 22/04/19:

This week was our first week back after the Easter break. I found it easy to get back into routine and feel like I am on track. This week I continued doing some more research on different feminist movements that are currently taking place and which empowering women are supporting and pushing those movements. I also finished analysing my questionnaire results and said how they were useful in my pre-production and they will be vital in my production so I can make a product that the consumer, who answered the questionnaire, will read and take something from. I am definitely going to start production next week as the sooner I start it, the more time I will have at the end of the assignment to evaluate and finalise my ideas.

Week commencing 29/04/19:

This week has been a very productive week. I have been producing my final product all week. I have experimented with different front cover designs and contents pages. I still haven't finalised a design for my front cover but I have got a final design for my contents page and I have added an explanation page which explains the 'special edition' of the magazine. I feel like I am currently in a good place with my assignment and that I am making good progress but I have to make sure that I stay on track that I meet the deadline.

Week commencing 06/05/19:

This week I have made significant progress in my production. I am still not in love with my front cover but after several attempts I am going to settle on the best one. I finished my contents page and started producing my double page spreads. I have decided to add more pages to the magazine and to make it look more professional that I am going to add adverts into my magazine. They will most probably be simple double page spreads for each company or two companies will share a double page spread.  I feel like I am in a good position at the moment but I do have to speed up a little but and maybe stop being such a perfectionist so I can make sure I meet the deadline.

Week commencing 13/05/19:

This week had been a really important week. Because we are nearing the deadline date, I wanted to make sure that by the end of this week my magazine is finished and my evaluation is done (for the most part). I wanted everything to be done so then I could spend next week, being the final week of the FMP, to perfect every thing and proof read every thing so it all makes sense. I have finished my magazine and I am quite happy with how it turned out. I managed to produce more double page spreads than I thought I would which is good as it has added more weight to my magazine, which in turn helps it look more realistic and as if it could be an actual magazine. I obviously feel like I am in a really good position at the moment as I am well ahead of my schedule and if I get my evaluation finished, I will definitely meet the deadline.

Week commencing 20/05/19:

This week was the final week of the FMP. I have definitely managed to meet the deadline and hand everything in on time. I even managed to hand in a printed version of my magazine to hand in as my final design is for a print magazine and I wanted to be clear for the examiners. I am very happy with my assignment overall and I am very proud of the final product. When going over it again, there are a few things I would have liked to change before handing it in. I would have ideally liked to have kept to a more structured, columned design for my double page spreads and featured a few more of my own photos as adverts. Although, saying that I like the fact that each double page spread doesn't follow a specific structure and looks like a feature article in a magazine. I didn't want my magazine to follow the normal codes and conventions typically found in a magazine as I wanted it to be different and stand out to attract a younger audience. Hopefully, you can see that in my final production. I am very happy with my final product and I wouldn't change much if I was to do it again!
